Mike is a Certified Nutritionist by day and a fearful parent by night. He discovered his children have a disease that suppresses their immune system. Though his children do not have any of the symptoms, Mike knows the disease is incurable, debilitating and possibly even deadly.
The bacteria that have invaded the children’s bodies feed on refined sugar, so he particularly avoids this. However, at the children’s school and other social gatherings they are tempted to eat all kinds of the wrong foods, which can have a detrimental effect on their bodies.
Lately he has been avoiding social events at the church in order to keep the kids from eating the wrong foods. Sometimes he lets the kids eat what is not good for them, according to what he understands about the disease, but he struggles with guilt and fear when he is not guarding their diet as rigidly as he could.
Mike is 39 and has been a Christian for 10 years. He and Barbara are hands-on parents as far as discipling the kids. He also understands the sovereignty of God, but sometimes struggles with this teaching, particularly as it pertains to God’s sovereignty and human responsibility. Mike & Barbara come to you for counseling. Below are some questions he wants help with.
Application Questions
