Rarely have I ever counseled an individual who is rightly related to his/her local church. With rare exceptions, most of the people I have had the privilege of serving have some sort of relational breakdown in the context of their local church.
It is very difficult to be properly connected to the body and have on-going, unconquerable problems or issues. And should you have problems, it is the local church that assists you in overcoming your problems.
Some of the exceptions are situations that are all-of-a-sudden problems, like death. Most situations are not so much all-of-a-sudden as much as they are the culmination of a person who has not been properly connected to his local church.
Take adultery, for example. Adultery does not just happen. Adultery is the culmination of a long pattern of heart motives, attitudes, thoughts and behaving that could have been circumvented if the person has been properly related to the local church. This would also apply to any type of sexual problems. Divorce would be another illustration of something that just did not occur overnight.
Rarely have I ever counseled anyone who is rightly related to his local church.
There are two key elements necessary to be rightly related. The first is the attitude of the believer and the second is the contexts within the local church the believer is engaged in.
