Participating in the Local Church

Here’s an observation that I would not map over all local churches, but I am of the opinion that some of our local churches need a “relationship upgrade.” Again, many churches are hitting on all cylinders, but because of the nature of my business I interact, more often than not, with folks who are not engaged at a proper, practical level with their local church.

Recently I was reading a blog post by C. J. Mahaney that posed three very good questions for me as I think through how I engage my fellow believers in my local church. I thought his thoughts would serve you as well.

Participation in the local church

As those who have been forever changed by the gospel, we have the privilege and joy of serving in the local church.

When we consider how to apply this goal to our schedules, we can ask ourselves three simple questions.

Ask yourself:

  • When and how am I intentionally serving those around me? this year? this week?
  • When and how do I care specifically for those closest to me in the church? this year? this week?
  • When and how do I pray for and support my pastor? this year? this week?
